Marbled Murrelet Tree Climber Training and Certification Course
July 28th/29th and September 26th, 2011
Necessary Equipment/Field Gear List
- First Aid Kit (well stocked with contents that are current and up-to-date)
- "Soft" Tree climbing equipment and gear for rigging and climbing trees. All gear and equipment needs to meet or exceed OSHA/ANSI specifications. Climbing spurs will NOT be allowed.
- PSG Marbled Murrelet Nest Structure Forms (will be provided upon arrival)
- Ball point writing pens for completing Revised PSG Marbled Murrelet Nest Structure Form
- Sealable collection bags (large heavy gauge "zip loc" freezer bags work well)
- Permanent marking pens for writing on identification tags/collection bags.
- Metric Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) tape calibrated to one- millimeter increments.
- Metric measuring tape for measuring linear distances as per PSG Marbled Murrelet Nest Structure Form requirements.
- Narrow probe calibrated in five-millimeter increments for measuring depth of nest substrate.
- Compass (degrees) with adjustable declination setting
- Clinometer
- Binoculars
- Digital camera capable of taking close-up pictures in shady conditions along with software capable of saving pictures in TIF or JPG file formats (TIF and JPG refers to the type of image file the image is saved as, the file extension in other words) to a recordable Compact Disk (CD)
- Two-way radios for quiet communication between climber and ground crew
- Extra batteries for digital camera and radios
